EDUCATION
Dr. Angela A. Brown brings more than 30 years as a teacher leader in elementary, secondary, and adult learning settings through which she established a reputation as an award-winning school turnaround specialist.
At CSL, Angela’s mission as professional learning manager with the Initiative for Leveraging Innovation is to develop and nurture collaborative relationships and skills that will generate a pipeline of highly effective school leaders and district candidates. The Initiative is designed to support these teacher leaders in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and the KIPP Charter Network Consortium as they serve in, reform, and transform traditionally underserved schools—with a laser focus on improving student achievement.
Angela was an Instructional Leadership Director in a Title I school district for five years. Previously she had served as an elementary and secondary school principal for 16 years; an assistant principal for three years; and a classroom teacher for seven years.
Schools Angela led as principal earned the National Blue Ribbon of School Excellence Award for consecutive academic achievement and the Educator’s Consumers Foundation Value-Added Award for the highest TVAAS gains in the state of Tennessee. Under Angela’s leadership, these schools earned the state of Tennessee’s Reward School benchmark within three years. Previously, each of these schools had been identified as high priority—in the bottom five percent on state performance metrics.
