EDUCATION
Alvin Wood is a tireless champion for students, having served for more than 37 years as a teacher and leader in the Detroit Public Schools Community District. At CSL, he is harnessing these decades of experience to support principals in driving higher student achievement.
Alvin’s work as a business education teacher and cooperative office education coordinator at the middle and high school levels informed his many executive leadership roles in supporting students, teachers, and district operations. From serving in the classroom through his years as dean of students, principal of elementary and middle schools, and senior executive director of school support for the Detroit Public Schools Community District, Alvin supported staff in developing and implementing instructional initiatives, strategies, and programs to improve the effectiveness of teachers and school leaders. His prior professional experiences include management and marketing leadership roles at General Motors and Coca Cola.
Alvin also is a charter member of the Detroit Retired Principals’ Network—an organization of former school administrators that provides academic scholarships to students in the Detroit metropolitan area.
